As we scoured the internet in search of research and information on Atchison, KS, we stumbled upon a blog written back in 2009 that detailed a case on how Atchison's hauntings are theoretically possible according to the author. An interesting read nonetheless that should spark a bit of debate between individuals who read it.
In an excerpt from the blog, the author discusses why Atchison has a possibility for being haunted.
"I’ve started doing my research on the most haunted places, using a 50-place sample in the U.S. I’ve started to compare the actual proof of hauntings (to give the place a haunted scale) and then the composition of the earth, the building materials, the presence of running streams/rivers/oceans, and train tracks. In doing so, I’ve come across some common factors that seem to point to the possibility that Atchison, Kansas is a perfect example of a place that HAS to be haunted."

Atchison is well known for its rich history, including its haunted history. But are the stories and legends of the town true, or is it simply just legend? Topher Young of the Paranormal Study and Investigative Research Organization (www.PSIRO.com) had this to say about the legends of Atchison;
"It can be difficult to distinguish fact from fiction in regards to paranormal experiences. There are numerous claims made about experiencing something out of the ordinary in this town and all over the world. Some can simply be explained by logical and rational means, while others may not be as easily explained away. Whether or not their experiences are imaginary based on environmental stimulus or indeed something paranormal in nature cannot be determined simply off anecdotal evidence. In that respect, the haunted history of Atchison will remain very much alive".
Whether or not the haunted legends of Atchison are real, hundreds of people visit the town each and every year to try and catch a glimpse of something supernatural at work. From haunted trolley tours to investigations of some of the haunted homes. The town is proud of its rich haunted history and is very open and welcoming to visitors looking to have an experience of their own. Even if you do not experience anything supernatural, the history and beauty of the town and its historic homes will leave a lasting impression.
